BRUNDAVAN'S CAMPAIGN TO INSTALL BINS TO DISPOSE USED SANITARY PADS AND ENABLE GIRLS TO CONTINUE EDUCATION

I am running an online fundraising campaign to help menstruating girls from government schools in Bangalore dispose of their used sanitary napkins with dignity and continue going to school. Girls and women collectively use approximately 12 billion pads annually and generates 112,800 waste tonnes annually. Most of this waste ends up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution. Brundavan Foundation is installing technology bins in the government schools in Bangalore that will be used to dispose of sanitary napkins. The bin is a programmed hygiene management system that generates harmless and recyclable output out of used sanitary pads. Please support this campaign by entering the amount you wish to contribute using a Credit/Debit card, net banking, etc. Contribution the campaign has 80G tax benefits. Foreign contribution is not allowed. Let us help the menstruating girls dispose of the pads with dignity and save environment.

The Social problem :

The National Family Health Survey (2019-21) reports that 78% of women in India use sanitary napkins. Despite this high percentage, accessibility remains a significant barrier, particularly for low-income communities where affordability is a major concern. A study highlights that girls and women collectively use approximately 12 billion pads annually. This usage generates an estimated 9,400 tonnes of menstrual waste each month, amounting to 112,800 tonnes annually. Most of this waste ends up in landfills, contributing substantially to environmental pollution. Additionally, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan survey reveals that 1 in 5 adolescent girls discontinue their education due to the lack of adequate toilet and menstrual hygiene facilities. This issue results in over 4 million school dropouts each year across India, underscoring the urgent need for improved menstrual hygiene management in schools to support female education and well-being.

The Social solution:

Brundavan Foundation in collaboration with Padcare Labs aims to install an innovative machine that reduces carbon emissions and minimises waste in landfills. The machine efficiently shreds used sanitary pads, separating cellulose and plastic without incineration. By avoiding burning, this process is environmentally friendly and reduces harmful emissions. The machine will be installed in 100 government schools across Bangalore. The initiative includes installing bins, which will ensure that used sanitary napkins are disposed of safely and with dignity. Padcare Labs team will regularly collect the used napkins from these bins, ensuring proper disposal and recycling. This solution creates a Safe, Dignified, and Environmentally Friendly Disposal System for Sanitary Napkins. It also aims to decrease the number of girls dropping out of school due to menstruation-related challenges.
