PRAJAKTA'S CAMPAIGN TO PROVIDE COVID-19 RELIEF (FOOD & SHELTER) CARE FOR CARE LEAVERS
I am running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to provide food & accommodation to care leavers during COVID-19 lock-down. Post the child turns 18, he/she is no longer the responsibility of orphanage & they leave the care. These youth who leave the Children Homes (CH) / Child Care Institutions (CCIs) / orphanage care are called as care leavers. For 1000's of care leavers, turning 18 is a nightmare as they struggle to cope & are often socially excluded, go through mental illness that is not addressed, & have phases of uncertainty & unemployment, not being independent & yet not knowing who to depend on Ekla, a project of Spherule Foundation supports care leavers by empowering them to take charge of their lives, provide rental money for stay & monthly ration. Please support this campaign by entering the amount you wish to contribute using a Credit/Debit card, Net-banking, etc. You will also get a report on how funds were used. Let us help care leavers during this COVID-19 pandemic
Youth in CCIs, CHs or orphanages when turn 18, the orphanage does not take their responsibility & hence the youth has to leave. After care facilities being provided government but more than 25% of the care leaves do not have access to after care. For such 1000's of care leavers, turning 18 is a nightmare as they struggle to cope & are often socially excluded, go through mental illness that is not addressed, & have phases of uncertainty & unemployment, not being independent & yet not knowing who to depend on. Discontinuity of education, lack of skill-training & lack of social stability of care-leavers leaves them unprepared for their transition into adulthood. Securing stable housing is a big challenge for care-leavers. 1000's of care-leavers do not receive the education they need in their orphanages and care leavers face difficulty in continuing their education when they had transitioned out of childcare institutes and end up on the street, job less, unskilled, and uneducated
Ekla, a project of Spherule foundation run by Mr. Aditya Charegaonkar. Ph. D Scholar at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, has taken the initiate to support care leavers by empowering them get into mainstream society by giving them access to after care facilities, monthly ration, monthly rental, & a fellowship of INR 20000/- per month for 6 months to care leaver youth who can empower other care leavers to access the same, get skilled based training, & secure his/her life. The focus is on after care facility by government & NGOs which includes vocational training, scholarships for higher education, & financial support until they are employed. Aditya received appropriate guidance, shelter support from his childhood counsellor during adverse situation & to give back to society, he has set up the Youth Care leavers Association (YCLA) pronounced as Ekla which in Bangla means alone. He has felt alone many a times when his call for support for helping care leavers are not answered.
