In India, cancer awareness is a pressing concern. Over 1.4 million new cases are reported annually, with cervical cancer being the second most common among women. However, 90% of cases are often detected late due to lack of awareness.
1 in 10 women are unaware of cervical/breast cancer screening, leaving them vulnerable to late diagnosis and poor treatment outcomes.
Women and adolescent girls are disproportionately affected, as limited access to information and screening services puts them at higher risk. Many adolescent girls lack knowledge on cancer risks, especially those caused by lifestyle or infection (e.g., HPV).
Misinformation and limited access to screening/treatment services exacerbate the issue, particularly among low-income and rural populations.
