The problem Garbage Concern Welfare Society (GCWS) is addressing:
An estimated one billion people live in urban slums across India. Over 50% of the people living in slums are either school/college dropouts or are uneducated as they never went to school.
These people are unemployed. Poverty is now growing faster in urban than in rural areas. These urban slums are typically overcrowded, polluted, and dangerous, and lack basic services such as clean water and sanitation.
90% of the urban slums do not have effective waste management systems. Growing waste, increasing indoor and outdoor pollution, and reducing green spaces are having an increasing impact on health and sanitation issues. Indian cities are among the most dirty and polluted.
There is a growing divide between the rich and poor due lack of opportunity in terms of regular employment for the poor.
