Social problem Project Zariya Trust is addressing
In Udaipur Central Jail, Rajasthan, female inmates from marginalised tribal and low-income backgrounds endure profound socio-economic invisibility.
Over 70% face complete family abandonment, social boycott, and no visitors, unlike male counterparts. As first-time offenders driven by domestic conflicts or desperation, they lack vocational skills, soft skills, and post-release support.
Nationally, India’s 22,000 female prisoners transition yearly with zero savings and criminal records barring employment. Rooted in patriarchal stigma and intergenerational poverty, this leads to recidivism, extreme poverty, forced migration, domestic abuse, and children pulled from school, perpetuating a “revolving door” of crime amid post-pandemic job scarcity.
