SOCIAL PROBLEM CHOTAY TARAY FOUNDATION IS ADDRESSING
Jammu and Kashmir has approx. 361153 disabled population and 28% of which are children.
Analysis of 2011 Census data placed Jammu and Kashmir at 33rd place of Indiaâs 36 states and union territories for poor outcomes for people with disabilities, including high prevalence of child labor, adult unemployment, illiteracy and beggars among the stateâs population of persons with disabilities.
There are limited health, rehabilitation, education, employment opportunities available for people with disabilities. The public places, schools and most of hospitals, parks and transportation lack accessibility features thus restricting people with disabilities from accessing the necessary services. Other barriers like social, attitudinal and communicational faced by people with disabilities further exclude and marginalize them.
Children with disabilities are dependent on family members as a result they face more discrimination and face more barriers to healthcare, education, and many other services.
