SOCIAL PROBLEM HUMJOLI FOUNDATION IS ADDRESSING
Almost 25 to 50 girls are either found begging or selling at traffic signals across India. For every menstruating girl at traffic signals spending even a single rupee for their hygiene would mean them sleeping hungry for a few days.
More than 90% of menstruating girls at traffic signals do not know how to keep hygiene during menstruation and post menstruation.
Menstruation is normal and a healthy part of life and yet females in India go through extreme struggles to manage their periods every month. A large chunk of the Indian population believes this natural cycle to be a âcurseâ, âimpureâ, and âdirtyâ among other things, courtesy of the ancient myths surrounding menstruation in our country.
It is due to this ignorance that most females resort to unhygienic and harmful things like rags, cloths, mud, ashes, cow dung, etc. Such practices have proven to be extremely harmful to females being the leading cause of major health issues like cervical cancer, toxic shock syndrome, and more.
