The problem Shine On Social Welfare Foundation is addressing
Almost 23 Million girls drop out of school every year when they start menstruating due to lack of proper menstrual hygiene management facilities, which includes lack of sanitary napkins and logical awareness of menstruation.

Most girls from underprivileged backgrounds do not use sanitary pads as they cannot afford it and hence they use old or dirty cloths, newspapers, ashes and even old dried leaves and husks. This leads to a lot of illness, which leads to expenses on the pocket and circling back to poverty.

More than 80% adolescent girls from low-income backgrounds do not know how to keep hygiene during menstruation and post menstruation. On a global level, at least 500 million women and girls lack adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management.

Lack of adequate information on sanitation and hygiene facilities, particularly in public places like schools, workplaces or health centres can pose a major obstacle to women and girls.
