Social problem Development Focus is addressing

Tribal communities in six villages of Basia block, Gumla, face persistent poverty, food insecurity, limited services, and scarce livelihood opportunities.
Agriculture is mainly rain-fed, subsistence-based, and restricted to one annual crop because irrigation, improved seeds, tools, and market access are inadequate. Low productivity and seasonal employment force young people into unsafe migration, exposing them to exploitation and disrupting families.
Remote villages have weak educational infrastructure, high dropout rates, gender disparities, and limited opportunities for skills development.
The region’s history of Maoist-related insecurity has further delayed infrastructure and economic progress.
Dependence on forest produce and wage labour leaves vulnerable households exposed to malnutrition, seasonal shocks, debt, and continuing intergenerational poverty.
