ELEENA'S CAMPAIGN TO REFORM PRISON THROUGH SECOND CHANCE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
I am running a crowdfunding campaign to reform the prison through a unique 'Second Chance Fellowship' program of TYCIA. From poor infrastructure to overcrowding of jails, from mental health of officials and prisoners to delay in trials from the problem of undertrials to less capable/desensitized prison staff, there are enormous amounts of challenges in the context of prison reforms that are frequently not addressed. TYCIA has taken the initiative to reform the prison through a very unique 'Second Chance Fellowship' program. The fellowship is a one-year program that invites individuals who envision themselves to become leaders/fellows and make a difference in the prison system. Please support this campaign by entering the amount you wish to contribute using a Credit/Debit card, Net-banking, etc. You will also get a report on how funds were used by the TYCIA. Foreign contribution is not allowed. Let us reform prison.
The prison system's main focus is on the reformation of prisoners but the flaws and gaps which exist in the system such as overcrowding, mental health of officials and prisoners, bail bonds, delays in trials, understaffing of officials, and more, are frequently not addressed. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working on this issue mostly focus on reforming the prisoners, rather than trying to bring about systemic changes. Hence, it is necessary to revamp the entire prison system and work towards bringing fundamental changes. In the current situation, the number of dedicated and enthusiastic individuals is insufficient in comparison to the severity of the problem. As a result, one strategy to strive toward this goal is to develop more leaders who can work and make a difference in the prison system.
TYCIA has been transforming prison since 2017 and subsequently with the support of ex-Director General (DG) launched Second Chance Fellowship (SCF). The fellowship is a one year program that invites passionate individuals to become leaders/fellows and work in the prison system and also gives an opportunity to create peer-fellows who are commitment to bring a change in the present prison system. The fellowship has been designed so that each can identify a systemic problem of the prison system and work with a peer fellow to design an intervention. Hence, with each fellow working towards one particular systemic issue a chain of multiple projects and initiatives which work on systemic issues and will collectively reboot the institution in the longer run. In the last 4 years, 10 fellows and 10 peer fellows have graduated and out of which 3 have launched their initiatives and peer fellows were involved in co-creating the intervention tools with the fellows.
TYCIA Foundation (Turn Your Concerns Into Action) is a Non-Government Organisation registered in 2011 working in the domain of Education, Livelihoods, Prison Reformation, Rehabilitation & Reintegration, Gender Justice, and Disaster relief.
Contribution of as little as Rs. 499/- or more from you will help TYCIA implement the unique 'Second Chance Fellowship' program and reform the prison by providing fellowship to 5 fellows and 5 peer fellows (inmates).
The funds collected will be given to TYCIA which will be used to provide stipends to fellows, hire program lead, operations lead, stationary & printing, seed capital for initiatives, and contingency. We appreciate every little contribution.
You will receive an 80G donation receipt in 7 days after the campaign is closed. Foreign contribution is not allowed. You will receive details of how money was spent in 6 months after the campaign is closed from TYCIA.
Since 2017, 20+ fellows and peer-fellows have graduated. 3200+ prisoners underwent the workshops. 1800+ hours of workshops and sessions facilitated by SCFs. 3 SC fellows became entrepreneurs and got the projects incubated under SCF.
