The Social problem :

Almost 25 to 50 girls are either found begging or selling at traffic signals across India. For every menstruating girl at traffic signals spending even a single rupee for their hygiene would mean them sleeping hungry for a few days. More than 90% of menstruating girls at traffic signals do not know how to maintain hygiene during and after menstruation. Menstruation is normal and a healthy part of life and yet females in India go through extreme struggles to manage their periods every month. A large chunk of the Indian population believes this natural cycle to be a ‘curse’, ‘impure’, and ‘dirty’ among other things, courtesy of the ancient myths surrounding menstruation in our country. It is due to this ignorance that most females resort to unhygienic and harmful things like rags, cloths, mud, ashes, cow dung, etc. Such practices have proven to be extremely harmful to females being the leading cause of major health issues like cervical cancer, toxic shock sy

The Social solution:

Team Humjoli Foundation have taken initiative to support 1500 or more menstruating girls from traffic signals of Pune. 1500 or more menstruating girls will be provided with right knowledge on safe menstrual health and hygiene practices along with providing them one year of sanitary hygiene kit. The health and hygiene kit for 12 months consists of 12 packets sanitary pads, 6 soaps, 84 disposal bags for used sanitary a pads, 2 new undergarments, and 1 Kit bag. This will be done by conducting awareness sessions/workshops to introduce puberty, sexual/reproductive health, menstrual health, safe menstruation practices, and usage of menstrual cups to 1000 sex workers at the traffic signals of Pune to start with.
