Single women in urban slums face severe social, economic, and emotional challenges. With limited access to government welfare schemes, they struggle to make ends meet. Lack of awareness about their rights, poor mental health support, and limited livelihood opportunities further exacerbate their vulnerability. These women, including widows, abandoned, and divorced women, bear the sole responsibility of their families without any support. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 3,000 single women in 29 slums are in dire need of assistance. Less than 20% have access to government schemes, and many are unaware of their rights and mental health resources. With no skills or income-generating opportunities, they live in substandard conditions, facing health and hygiene issues. This generational problem has persisted for decades due to neglect and exclusion. We must act now to empower these women and bring about lasting change.

The Social solution:

Team SPMESM empowers single women through comprehensive support. We conduct surveys to identify women in need, then provide educational support to help them continue their studies. Our team guides them in accessing government welfare schemes, ensuring they receive the benefits they're eligible for. Skill development training is offered in areas like tailoring, beautician services, and computer software, with placement support and entrepreneurship opportunities. We also facilitate the formation of Self-Help Groups to promote financial independence and peer support. Regular counselling and mental health sessions are conducted to support their emotional well-being. Our goal is to equip these women with the tools and resources needed to thrive, breaking the cycle of vulnerability and empowering them to build a brighter future.
